Moo-La-Palooza Mooing Contest Gains New Champion
West Allis, WI (Aug. 19, 2005) – A little rain did not spoil the “moood” or spirit of Moo-la-Palooza at the Wisconsin State Fair on Thursday, Aug. 11. The second annual mooing contest, co-sponsored by Cousins Subs and Dean’s Milk, attracted a herd of participants, raised funds for charity and garnered a new Moo-la-palooza Champion.
The Cousins Subs®/Dean’s Milk Moo-la-palooza is an annual fun, family-friendly event where adults, teens and kids belt out their best bovine impersonation for the chance to win various prizes while helping to raise funds for the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation. The unique contest returned to the Wisconsin State Fair this summer with bigger prizes, including the coveted Moo-la-palooza jacket, more categories and more fun.
This year there were three categories: adult (18 and older), teen (11-17) and calf (10 and under). The most realistic cow impersonation in each category resulted in an adult and teen taking home $500 and a $500 US Savings Bond being given to the calf winner. In addition, each winner receives free Cousins Subs and Dean’s Milk for one year.
More than 100 people lined up in the misting rain for the chance to become Moo-la-palooza’s next big winners. This year, Randy Parilek of Antigo, Wis., became the new Moo-la-palooza champion. He accepted his Moo-la-palooza Champion jacket and check with tears in his eyes.
“I just can’t believe it,” Parilek said. “My wife said I had a chance, but I didn’t believe her.”
Jennifer Leverence, 16, of Oconomowoc, Wis., was crowned the teen winner and Caleb Tadysak, 9, of Eagle, Wis., was crowned the calf winner.
For every contestant that mooed on stage, Cousins Subs and Dean’s Milk donated $20 to the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation that resulted in a $2,000 donation. The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation provides urban and rural youths throughout the state with important and valuable leadership, citizenship and lifestyle skills.
Again this year, Moo-la-palooza leaped into the national spotlight overnight as the contest was showcased on the national FOX News Network, The Weather Channel and more than 100 other television stations throughout the country.
About Cousins Subs
Cousins Subs is based in Milwaukee, Wis., and is a national sub sandwich chain with stores throughout the Midwest and on the West Coast. The tradition of Cousins Subs started in 1972, when two transplanted cousins from Atlantic City saw the need for an East-coast style sub shop in their new hometown. They patterned their subs after the hoagie, grinder, hero and sub sandwiches they enjoyed back East. From the start, the two used bread baked fresh every morning and insisted on using only the finest, freshest ingredients.
